Why Are Fascia Boards Important?

Fascia is the horizontal board on the edge of your roof and it basically puts the final touch on how your roof looks. They run along the length of the home and are located behind the gutters. Besides completing the look of your home, fascia or fascia boards are important as they help in protecting the roof from the inside against moisture and pest infestation by concealing the exposed ends of rafters. Not only this, fascia boards perform the important function of supporting the gutters in their flow from one end of the roof to the other side. Protection from nature: Besides their aesthetics, fascia boards protect your home from elements such as water and wind, and even pests. In combination with the material on the underside of your roof, these boards prevent water or pests from entering the home. When to replace: When the fascia boards are old and need replacement you will know by the following tell-tale signs. It is time to replace fascia boards when you spot fungus, algae, mild or rot on or near the boards. It means a leak has happened or is bound to happen pretty soon. All these tell-tale signs eventually lead to water seeping through the roof and that is not the ideal situation and calls for immediate mend. Damage from foliage and animals: If there is any damage by animals such as chewed food or marks of claws or insect holes, consider replacing your fascia boards soon. These signs mean your roof and interior of the home are poised for damage if not dealt with in time.
