Will Your Roof Survive This Winter?

This winter has certainly been a crazy one. From freezing temperatures to spring-like thaws, we’ve seen it all—and so has your roof.

What are ice dams?

Ice dams are caused by melting and refreezing snow, and can occur for two key reasons: firstly, when heat from inside your home escapes into the attic and warms the roof decking, and secondly, when sunlight hits the roof. As the ice heats up, water runs toward the eaves; and, when it reaches their cold, metal surface, it refreezes. This causes ice and water to “back up” into the roof, pushing underneath the shingles and causing immense damage.

How can I prevent ice dams?

Luckily, this crisis can be averted. At All Stars, we install ice water shields to stop runoff from building up underneath the shingles, halting ice dams in their tracks. To help your roof make it through the winter months, drop us a line: we can examine, repair, or replace it to avoid devastating deterioration.
